Chessformer Chessformer

Chessformer is a gravity-powered chess puzzle: move a piece by its normal rules, then watch it fall, to reach the still king across 48 levels.

Chessformer takes the rules you already know from chess — a rook’s straight slide, a bishop’s diagonal, a knight’s L-shaped hop — and turns them into a puzzle instead of a duel. Each of the 48 levels drops a single piece onto a small grid with a red king standing still somewhere ahead. Reach the king and the level is cleared.

The twist is gravity. Every move plays out by chess rules first, but once the piece stops it immediately falls straight down until it hits the floor or another piece — so a bishop’s diagonal might end up several rows lower than where the move looked like it would land. Clearing a stage means reading a piece’s legal moves and where each one will actually settle afterward, which turns familiar chess movement into a much more physical kind of puzzle.

Controls

Click or tap the piece to select it, then click or tap a highlighted square to move it there. That’s the whole input — it works the same way with a mouse or a touchscreen.

Tips that actually help

  • Trace the fall, not just the move — a piece’s landing square after gravity matters more than the square its chess move ends on.
  • A rook or bishop that drops onto another piece can block a path you need two moves later, so check what’s underneath before committing.
  • Knights jump over anything in their way on the move itself, but they still obey gravity once they land, so plan for the drop the same way you would with any other piece.
