Bounce the ball off your paddle to smash every block, grab power-ups for extra balls or a wider paddle, and push through three difficulty levels.

Breakout is one of the oldest ideas in video games, and this version keeps the original hook intact: knock a ball into a wall of colored blocks with a paddle, and don’t let it get past you. Every block you clear opens up more room for the ball to ricochet, so a lucky bounce into a gap can wipe out half a row in one pass. Losing all your lives ends the run and sends you back to a fresh wall.

What sets this build apart from the bare-bones 1976 original is the power-ups. As you play, icons drift down from broken blocks — grab one and it might widen your paddle, split your one ball into several, or hand you some other edge for the next few seconds. Missing them costs nothing, but chasing them well is what turns a shaky run into a long one.

Controls

  • Mouse: move the mouse left and right to slide the paddle, left-click to launch the ball.
  • Touch: drag your finger across the screen to move the paddle.

Tips that actually help

  • Pick a difficulty first — Normal, Hard, or Impossible. Hard and Impossible move the ball faster and pay out a 3x and 5x score multiplier, so they’re worth it once you can reliably track a quick ball.
  • Angle your returns instead of just centering the paddle under the ball. Catching the ball near the edge of the paddle sends it off at a sharper angle, which is often the only way to reach blocks tucked into a corner.
  • Power-ups fall in a straight line from the block they came out of — if you’re already lined up under a block you’re about to break, you’re in position to catch whatever it drops.
  • Watch your lives counter in the bottom-left corner. On the faster difficulties it’s easy to lose track of how many chances you have left while you’re focused on the ball.
