Basketball Stars 2019 is MadPuffers’ fast, scrappy take on 2-on-2 basketball, built around dashing past defenders and slamming home highlight-reel dunks rather than careful half-court sets. It’s the prequel to the studio’s later Basketball Legends, and it plays with the same loose, arcade physics: matches are quick, scoring comes in bursts, and a single dash or steal can flip a possession in an instant.
You can play solo against the computer in 1v2 or 2v2 matchups, team up with a friend against the AI, or go head-to-head in local two-player. There’s also a tournament mode if you want a run of matches instead of a single quick game. Every player picks from a small roster of characters, each with its own special move — a mega dunk, a defensive boost, or a burst of speed for a fast break — so who you choose shapes how a match plays out as much as how well you move.
Controls
1 player:
- WASD or arrow keys — move
- X or L — shoot / steal
- S — pump fake / block
- A+A, D+D, or left/right arrow twice — dash
- K or Z — super shot
2 player:
- Player 1: WASD to move, B to shoot/steal, S to pump/block, A/D twice to dash, K for super shot
- Player 2: Arrow keys to move, L to shoot/steal, down arrow to pump/block, left/right arrow twice to dash
Tips that actually help
- There are no 3-pointers, so don’t waste time lining up long shots — get in close and drive to the rim instead.
- Watch the super shot meter in the top-left corner. Once it’s full, cashing it in guarantees a big dunk regardless of where you’re standing on the court.
- Double-tap a direction to dash past a defender who’s camped in the paint rather than trying to shoot over them.
- Pick a character whose special suits your plan — the defensive boost is worth it if you’re facing an opponent who drives constantly, while the fast-break ability rewards quick counters after a steal.
