Checkers is the classic two-player strategy board game focused on positional control and forced captures. Played on an 8×8 grid, your objective is to eliminate all of your opponent’s pieces or trap them so they have no legal moves left. Every match begins with twelve checkers per side, moving diagonally forward one square at a time across dark tiles.
A typical match tests your ability to plan multiple turns ahead. Slipping past the enemy line turns your standard piece into a King, granting the power to move and capture backward across the board. Balancing aggressive forward pushes with strict defense on your rear rank creates a tense, fast-paced game of give and take where a single miscalculation can trigger a devastating multi-jump sequence.
Controls
This digital edition uses simple mouse and touch controls on desktop and mobile:
- Select a Piece: Left-click or tap any of your active checkers to highlight valid diagonal moves.
- Move or Capture: Click or tap the target highlighted square to move into position or execute a jump.
Strategy & Tips
- Guard Your Back Rank: Avoid moving your rear checkers early in the match to prevent your opponent from crowning Kings.
- Dominate the Center: Keep pieces near the central squares to command more diagonal lanes and restrict enemy movement.
- Set Up Multi-Jumps: Sacrificing a single piece can open up a double or triple capture sequence on your next turn.
- Corner Enemy Kings: Use two Kings together to corner a lone opposing piece along the board’s edge.
