Compact Conflict is a turn-based, minimalist strategy game inspired by classic board games like Risk. Developed by Jakub Wasilewski (Wasyl) for the js13kGames competition, the game challenges you to expand your empire across a divided map by managing territory, recruiting soldiers, and upgrading temples. Each game is a tense, brief race lasting only 12 turns against computer opponents, demanding smart positioning and resource allocation rather than brute force.

Every turn grants you exactly three moves, which can be used to reposition your troops or launch assaults on neighboring lands. Instead of gold, your empire runs on faith: controlling territories and keeping soldiers stationed at temples generates faith over time. You must balance the urge to push forward into enemy territory with the need to fortify your own temples to secure a steady stream of reinforcements. The player holding the most regions at the end of the 12th turn wins.

Controls

• Select Territory: Click on any region you control.
• Select Soldier Amount: Click multiple times on your territory to increase the number of soldiers you want to move.
• Move / Attack: Click on an adjacent region to send your selected troops there.
• Manage Temples: Click on a temple you control to spend your accumulated faith on recruiting soldiers or upgrading the temple’s faith generation rate.

Tactical Tips

• Conserve Your Moves: You only get three actions per turn. Planning ahead is crucial—sometimes it is better to pass on minor skirmishes to focus your moves on fortifying a vital chokepoint.
• Respect the Defender’s Advantage: Combat is highly lethal, with one soldier on each side dying per combat round. Attacking a territory with equal or fewer troops than the defender is a quick way to lose your army. Only attack when you have a clear numerical advantage.
• Leverage the Faith Refund: When your soldiers die while defending a territory, they provide 4 faith each. Use this sudden influx of faith to immediately buy reinforcements at a nearby temple during your next turn.
• Focus on Temples First: Temples are the backbone of your economy. Early on, prioritize capturing and upgrading temples over empty territories, as the extra faith they generate will quickly pay off in subsequent turns.
