Fortnite is Epic Games’ free-to-play battle royale where 100 players skydive from the Battle Bus onto a shared island, scavenge weapons and resources, and fight to be the last one standing as a deadly storm steadily shrinks the safe zone. There is no respawning — every elimination is permanent within the match, and every match starts fresh. That combination of loot randomness, terrain variety, and opponent unpredictability keeps the game from feeling routine even after many hours.

What Fortnite added to the battle royale formula is building. As you move around the map, harvesting wood, brick, and metal, you accumulate materials that can be snapped into walls, ramps, and platforms in seconds during a firefight. A well-placed wall can absorb a shot that would have ended your run; a quick ramp gives you the high ground over an opponent caught in open terrain. Knowing when to build, when to push, and when to hold position is where most of the game’s skill gap actually lives.

Tips

• In early matches, land away from the spots directly under the Battle Bus path — those areas are heavily contested and punishing before you know the map.
• Move toward the safe zone proactively, not reactively. Arriving ahead of the closing storm means you can pick your position; arriving under storm damage means you take hits while being visible to everyone already set up inside the circle.
• Farm materials constantly, even when no fight is imminent. Having several hundred wood when a close-range firefight breaks out can mean the difference between instant cover and scrambling in the open.
