Hex Empire is a turn-based strategy game in the mold of Risk, played out on a hexagonal map styled after an abstract WWI/WWII-era world. You take command of one side, and the objective never changes: capture every rival capital before one of the AI opponents captures yours.
Each turn you get a handful of move commands to spend across the whole map, so you’re constantly choosing which front to push and which to hold. Armies advance hex by hex, and a single big stack beats several small ones in a fight — so a lot of a turn goes into consolidating scattered units before you commit to an attack. Cities and ports are the only source of new troops, which makes holding them, not just taking ground, the real objective.
Controls
Mouse only — left-click to select an army, then left-click the hex you want it to move into or attack. There’s no keyboard input; the game is built for desktop browsers.
Tips that actually help
- Defend your cities and ports before anything else — lose one and you stop producing new troops while your opponents keep growing.
- Merge smaller armies into one stack before attacking rather than trickling units in one at a time; a combined force takes ground that split-up ones can’t.
- You only get a limited number of commands per turn, so spend them on contested borders first and leave quiet fronts for later.
