Mine Blocks takes the idea of Minecraft and flattens it into a 2D side view, and the change works better than it has any right to. You dig sideways and down instead of in every direction, but the loop is the same one that made block-mining games addictive in the first place: punch a tree for wood, smelt some ore, build a pickaxe that can hit the next tier down, and keep going until night falls and something with claws is standing behind you.

Each world is randomly generated, so the first few minutes are always about reading the terrain: is there a cave mouth nearby, a river worth following, a hill worth hollowing out for a base? Survival mode makes every decision matter, since your tools, your food, and your walls are all things you had to earn. Creative mode drops the pressure entirely and lets you fly and build with unlimited materials instead. The game also has a multiplayer scavenger hunt mode, where you race other players to find ten specific items within an 8-minute timer.

Tips that actually help

Sprinting (double-tap A or D) is the fastest way to close distance on a fleeing animal or put ground between you and a monster you can’t beat yet.
Mining and placing use different buttons — left-click-and-hold breaks blocks, right-click places them. Mixing the two up is the most common early mistake.
Dig in before dusk. Even a rough dirt box with the entrance sealed is enough to sit out the first night while you figure out what tools you actually need.
If you want a shorter, more focused session than open-ended survival, the scavenger hunt mode gives you a hard 8-minute goal instead of an endless build.
