Particle Clicker is an educational and highly addictive physics-themed idle clicker game developed in 2014 by a team of undergraduate students during the CERN Summer Student Webfest. Inspired by the classic Cookie Clicker, the game puts you in the shoes of a lead researcher operating a virtual particle accelerator and detector. Your primary objective is to crash particles together, collect experimental data, and unlock new scientific discoveries to expand the frontiers of physics.

At its core, a session involves clicking the massive detector on screen to generate data and research points manually. As your database grows, you can hire PhD students, summer students, and postdocs to automate data collection, invest in infrastructure upgrades like cyclotrons and synchrotron accelerators, and research brand-new particles. With every breakthrough you achieve, you earn grant funding and valuable reputation, allowing you to scale up your laboratory and uncover real-world science facts along the way.

Controls

Particle Clicker features simple, mouse-only or touch-based inputs designed for easy accessibility in any browser:

• Left-Click / Tap: Click or tap the detector grid in the center of the screen to generate collisions and gather data manually.
• Menus and Upgrades: Click or tap the sidebar tabs to buy upgrades, hire research staff, invest in accelerators, or fund new scientific research.

Tips for Success

• Prioritize Flat Data Boosts First: In the early game, focus on purchasing upgrades that add a flat boost to data per click. Building this solid base makes your subsequent clicking sessions far more productive.
• Invest in Percentage Multipliers Later: Once you have a high base data production, shift your spending toward percentage-based multipliers (such as x2 or x10). Applying these to a larger base yields massive returns.
• Balance Staff and Infrastructure: Avoid spending all your grant money on a single upgrade. Diminishing returns kick in quickly, so distribute your funds across hiring new staff members, researching particles, and purchasing accelerator upgrades.
• Let the Lab Idle: As your staff automate data generation, the game functions perfectly in the background. Keep the tab open to accumulate research points and grant money passively over time.
