Combine elements to discover new ones in Alchemy, a calm drag-and-drop puzzle game built on loose, poetic alchemical logic instead of strict rules.

Alchemy is a slow, quiet puzzle game built around one idea: drag two elements together and see what they become. You start with the basics—water, fire, earth, air—and pull them across the screen to combine them, watching the inventory grow one new discovery at a time. There’s no timer and no score chasing you along, just a sprawling tree of combinations waiting to be found.

The logic behind each recipe leans on old European alchemical ideas rather than strict chemistry, so results are often more poetic than literal—water plus fire might give you steam, but a later combination might lean on what water represents rather than what it is. That loosely symbolic logic is most of the fun: guessing what two things might reasonably become, then being surprised when the game agrees or disagrees with you.

Controls

  • Hold the left mouse button and drag one element onto another to combine them.
  • Click an item in your inventory to pull it back out onto the workspace.

Everything happens with the mouse—there’s no keyboard shortcut list to learn.

Tips

  • Work through every pairing of your starting elements before moving on—early combinations unlock the ingredients later recipes depend on.
  • When a combination doesn’t do anything, don’t assume it’s wrong. Some pairs genuinely produce nothing; others need an item you haven’t discovered yet.
  • Think in metaphors, not just materials. Elements often stand in for a property (heat, growth, decay) as much as the literal thing.
