Swordtail
Swordtail puts you in charge of a small kingdom ruled by a cat king, and the whole game is spent making it bigger. You roam an open map on foot, chopping wood from the trees around you and hauling it back to raise new buildings, and every trip out exposes you to the wolves prowling the same ground.
There’s no separate combat screen or building menu breaking up the action — gathering, construction, and fighting off wolves all happen in the same top-down space, so a session comes down to managing risk: how far you’re willing to wander from your walls before a wolf catches you empty-handed.
Controls
- Move: WASD or the arrow keys, or click and drag with the mouse
- Pause: Escape
You have to be right next to a resource or an enemy to interact with it, so closing the distance is the first step before you can chop or fight.
Tips
- Attacks and harvesting only work at point-blank range — don’t waste time swinging from a few steps away.
- Keep track of how far you’ve wandered from your buildings; a wolf between you and home is more dangerous than one you can already see.
- Swordtail has local multiplayer, so pull up a second player on the same keyboard or mouse if you’d rather build the kingdom together.
