Playing against three other opponents, you must carefully manage your hand to avoid capturing penalty cards—specifically any Hearts or the dreaded Queen of Spades. Every trick is a tense calculation of whether to play high to clear out suits or play low to dodge taking unwanted points.
A typical round involves passing three cards to an opponent, then playing out thirteen tricks. You must follow suit if you can, making it crucial to remember which cards have been played and who might be void in a particular suit. It is a game of careful hand management and strategic risk-taking, especially when a player attempts to “Shoot the Moon” by capturing every single penalty card.
