FNAF 4 moves the Five Nights at Freddy’s series out of the security office and into a child’s bedroom. You play as the child — it’s midnight, the lights are low, and nightmare versions of Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy are lurking in the hallways outside your doors, inside your closet, and underneath your bed. There are no camera feeds to watch this time, just two doors, a flashlight, and your own ears.

Each night lasts six in-game hours. Your job is to check left and right, manage the closet, and monitor what’s building under the bed — all before 6 AM arrives. The critical mechanic is audio: lean against a door and if you hear deep breathing, something is right on the other side. Hold the door shut and wait. When the breathing stops, flash the light once to confirm the hallway is clear. Catching a nightmare animatronic mid-approach with the flashlight will drive it back, but hesitate at the wrong moment and the jump scare ends your night. Night 5 and beyond are a real difficulty spike — most players need several attempts to see 6 AM.

Tips that actually help

  • Listen before you look. Breathing at a door means something is right outside. Silence usually means the hallway is safe to flash. Treating every check as visual-first wastes time and misses the real signal.
  • Keep the closet mostly shut on Night 3 and later. Foxy retreats there — leaving the door wide open lets it rush you fast, and the attack on later nights has almost no warning time.
  • Check under the bed regularly. Small Freddy plushies accumulate there over time, and if you ignore it long enough the larger animatronic appears. Night 4 is where players most often lose to this without knowing why.
  • Split your attention. Focusing too long on one door while ignoring the other is the most common cause of death on Nights 4 and 5. Keep moving.
