Paper.io 2 is a real-time territory game where every player on the map is racing to paint as much ground as possible before someone else cuts them down. You control a small colored square that leaves a trail as it moves; close that trail back to your existing territory and the enclosed area becomes yours. The catch is that your trail is lethal while you are drawing it — any opponent who crosses it eliminates you instantly, so the further you venture from home, the more exposed you are.
Rounds unfold in short, tense bursts. When the map is crowded you are constantly choosing between pushing outward and retreating to safety — stretch too far and you hand a nearby opponent an easy kill; stay too close to home and bolder players will swallow the center. Watching an opponent sprint back to their base while you race to intercept their trail is the game’s sharpest moment.
Controls
- Arrow keys — move up, down, left, or right
- Mouse — move the cursor in the direction you want to travel
- Touch (mobile/tablet) — swipe in the direction you want to move
Tips
- Close short loops first. Small, fast enclosures carry little risk and build territory steadily. A quick triangular detour near your border is usually safer than a big sweeping arc.
- Watch your tail, not just the front. The most common death is a player slipping in from behind while you are focused on what is ahead. Check the sides before committing to a long extension.
- Chase a retreating trail. When you see an opponent’s unprotected trail leading back toward their base, cutting across it is an efficient elimination — as long as your own trail is not exposed at the same moment.
- Contest the center early. If you spend the first seconds near your spawn corner, aggressive players will claim the center and box you in. A few fast loops toward the middle buys breathing room for the rest of the round.
