Cat MarioA 2007 Japanese troll platformer: guide a white cat through levels where every block, flag, and power-up might be a hidden trap.
Cat Mario
Cat Mario looks exactly like a beginner’s platformer — white cat, pixel art, simple jumps. It is not. Every pipe, block, and enemy in this game is a potential trap, and the entire point is that you will not see them coming. Step on what looks like solid ground and a spike appears. Jump toward a flag and it kills you. Built in 2007 as a parody of Super Mario, the game was designed from scratch to punish every assumption a platformer player carries.
The loop is direct: run right, die to something you could not have predicted, and go again. After enough attempts on the same stretch you memorize what is there, push a little further, and die to something new. There are four levels, each longer and more elaborately cruel than the last. Progress is not about reflexes — it is about patience with repeated failure and treating each death as information.
Controls
- Arrow Left / Arrow Right — move
- Arrow Up — jump
- Arrow Down — crouch
- R — restart immediately
On mobile, use the on-screen directional buttons.
Tips
- Hit R the moment you die — do not wait for the death animation to finish. You will restart hundreds of times; saving two seconds each adds up.
- Slow down after clearing any new section. The next trap is almost always placed right where you feel safe enough to sprint.
- Treat every apparent reward — mushrooms, flag poles, stars — as a threat until you have died on it at least once.
Cat Mario is short by design; knowing the traps, most players can finish it in under fifteen minutes. If troll-style difficulty suits you, the Retro Games section here has other platformers worth trying once you clear this one.
