Flash TetrisFlash Tetris is the original falling-block puzzle — stack tetrominoes, clear rows, and survive as the speed climbs with every level.
Flash Tetris
Flash Tetris puts the classic Soviet puzzle directly in your browser — no download, no account, just tetrominoes falling from the top of a ten-by-twenty grid. Each piece drops at its own pace and it is your job to slide and rotate it into a gap before it locks. When every cell across a horizontal row is filled, that row vanishes and everything above it drops down. Clear four rows at once — the move the game is named for — and you score the biggest single-drop point bonus available.
The pace is what makes Tetris last. Early levels are forgiving enough to think through each drop; by the later levels the pieces are flying and you have to read the board instantly. There is no natural end to a run except the moment your stack climbs above the top of the field. That tension between setting up a four-line Tetris and simply keeping the board alive is the game in a nutshell.
Controls
- Left / Right Arrow — move the current piece sideways
- Up Arrow — rotate the piece clockwise
- Down Arrow — soft drop (hold to fall faster)
- Space — hard drop (piece falls and locks instantly)
On mobile, most implementations respond to swipe gestures: swipe left or right to move, swipe up to rotate, and swipe down to drop.
Tips that actually help
- Keep the surface flat. A jagged stack creates gaps that cannot be cleared once pieces lock over them. Prioritise smooth, even layers.
- Reserve one column for the I-piece. Leave a single open column along either edge. When four rows are otherwise complete, dropping a vertical I-piece clears all four at once — a Tetris, and the highest-value move in the game.
- Place S and Z pieces flat whenever possible. These two pieces are the hardest to slot cleanly; slanting them creates holes almost every time. Lay them flat and accept a single-row clear rather than hunting for the perfect gap.
- Switch to hard drops at higher speeds. When the pace climbs enough that watching the piece fall becomes stressful, hard-dropping every piece gives you a moment of stillness to plan the next move while the piece spawns.
